STRAWBERRY from FLAVOURsys
One of the most impressive things I saw at IBC 2011 was Strawberry from FLAVOURsys.
Strawberry is for collaborative editing including media asset management features to accelerate, integrate and improve your workflow.
Here’s the short pitch: You buy a 1U Strawberry server - approx $8,000 USD. This becomes a SAN client on your existing SAN (xSan, StorNext, MetaSAN). It is OS-agnostic - so … Windows, OSX, Linux is all good. Then, you purchase client licenses at $1,500 per seat.
In a nutshell, what it does create FILE VIRTUALIZATION on database on it’s server.
Now - the really cool thing here is that you can have bins automatically update in Avid, FCP and Adobe Premiere. So, for example - you have three assistant editors working - one of them is logging and loading footage, organizing them in bins, etc. - that editors bin can be shared INSIDE the Avid projects the other two assistant editors are editing.
I spent a log time at the Rorke booth where this was being demo’d and I was totally blow away. IMO this is hand down the best platform available for collaborative editing. It was use on The Three Musketeers 3D with smashing success.
