If You Had Invented Siri, You Would've Invented... →
parislemon: Well, we all knew this was coming.  In a sit down with Forbes’ Eric Savitz, Microsoft Chief Research and Strategy Officer Craig Mundie talks about how Microsoft has actually been doing what Siri offers for the past year with Tellme technology on Windows Phone. He dismisses Siri’s buzz as basically just good marketing and people being “infatuated” with Apple.  Sadly, the majority of...

Just grabbed an R3D file from the Red Sea shoot, swung it straight into AE CS5.5 for a quick look. All tools are standard AE fare: Levels, Curves and Selective Colour. Footage was shot on the Red Epic system, 5k FF at 6:1, Nikkor 14mm f/2.8 Courtesy of Tom Hamilton of Red Sea Pictures.

meganmilnes: A German effects company called OMSTUDIOS has built a remote controlled octocopter to fly a RED EPIC where human camera operators can’t go. The drone can fly up to a height of 150 meters and has a range of around 100 meters. Red Epic + Flying drone = The sort of geek math you can’t help but wish you’d come up with yourself.

Web Start-Ups Hit Cash Crunch - WSJ.com →
caterpillarcowboy: Read this, and then read Fred’s post. All of this is consistent with what I’m seeing as AngelList’s top connector (345 intros to 15 startups so far).  There is a a LOT of money chasing anything that looks like “a sure thing”. Established platforms (Airbnb) and SaaS businesses with years of traction (Dropbox, Evernote) are getting ridiculous valuations because investors see...

By The Way...
patriciahandschiegel: …it’s worth noting that Apple didn’t give away anything for FREE. Not its products, not its content, and yet it has millions and millions of customers. That’s because value isn’t always driven by free (or price). Value is driven by what someone considers valuable. It can be price but also (and often) other factors. That’s a lesson to take from Apple too.

For $60, Eddie Murphy Better Be At My House... →
parislemon: Peter Kafka wonders if the new Eddie Murphy movie is worth $60 to rent at home when it’s still in theaters. Short/kind answer: No. Longer/harsh answer: Hollywood is clearly filled with a bunch of arrogant, greedy assholes who clearly believe that piracy is the future of home movie viewing.
